All certifications require the Foundations in physical activity and exercise (formerly exercise theory) as a prerequisite. Once you've completed your Foundations course you can choose from the following specialties:
- Aquatic exercise
- Fitness for the older adult
- Resistance exercise and,
- Group Exercise plus one (or more) of the following designations:
- Cycle
- Step
- Choreography
- Mind-Body
- Portable Equipment
Steps to certify in group exercise
Fitness Alberta takes you from exercise theory to applied learning. Find out the steps you need to take to become a Fitness Alberta certified group exercise instructor.
Foundations in physical activity and exercise
This course is the prerequisite to all group exercise certification courses. Learn the foundations of anatomy, and exercise physiology. Take group exercise fundamentals plus one or more of five designations that suit your needs and interests.
Aquatic exercise specialty
Learn how to offer safe, effective group exercise classes in aquatic settings.
Fitness for the older adult specialty
Learn how to deliver safe, effective group exercise classes to older adults at all fitness levels.
Resistance exercise specialty
Learn how to deliver safe, effective resistance exercise classes.
Group exercise specialty
Take group exercise fundamentals plus one or more of five designations that suit your needs and interests.
