The role of Educators

Advance your career as a facilitator and presenter with Fab Educator certification. 

Educators offer Fitness Alberta certification courses to new candidates, and professional development at Fitness Alberta conferences and workshops. They become role models for other professionals, growing their reputation beyond offering fitness classes and sessions. 

Qualifications & application process: 

To qualify to teach specialty courses you need: 

  • current Fitness Alberta certification with approximately 2 years of experience facilitating fitness classes in your specialty
  • demonstrated adult education and professional fitness leadership experience in your area of expertise
  • demonstrated commitment to professional development and continuing education

To teach Foundations in Physical Activity and Exercise, you will need the above and: 

  • a post-secondary degree or diploma from an accredited institution in a relevant discipline, e.g. personal training, kinesiology, exercise physiology 

To apply for the course

It's a good idea to prepare your application package ahead of time. Here's what you need:  

  • a brief resume outlining your qualifications (as outlined above)
  • a short (15 minute) video of you facilitating an adult fitness class, or a client session
  • A brief cover letter outlining your reasons for becoming a FAB Educator
  • an optional letter of reference from a Fitness Alberta certified professional, outlining why they think you would make an outstanding FAB Educator

We review all packages prior to each course, and will let you know if you have met the qualifications. Next educator course date: TBA

The Educator course includes applied learning in: 

  • Adult education principles
  • Motivation
  • Leadership 

Fitness Alberta Educator Scope of Practice

  • Facilitate Fitness Alberta courses in areas that the Fitness Alberta Educator is certified in.
  • Conduct practical exams and assessments for Fitness Alberta leaders in areas the Fitness Alberta educator is certified in.
  • Be a positive representative of Fitness Alberta
  • Follow Fitness Leadership Canada Performance Standards, Fitness Alberta Performance standards, and the Fitness Alberta Code of Conduct.
