Knowledge and competency
Practical competency and knowledge assessments are required for all Fitness Alberta certifications, and for the first recertification. This ensures that you have demonstrated the competencies and knowledge needed to run an effective and safe group exercise class in your chosen specialty.
How does it work?
For your certification practical exam and assessment, you need to schedule a Fitness Alberta trainer-educator or Assistant trainer-educator to observe you as you lead a class in your specialty. You will be assessed on specific criteria that applies to your specialty (see the assessment forms below).
- To book your practical knowledge and competency assessment you must select an educator who is certified in the specialty you have chosen:
- List of current Fitness Alberta trainer-educator or assistant trainer-educators
- Fees are determined by the trainer-educator or assistant trainer-educator
Each certification practical exam has two parts:
- Competency based practical assessment of your facilitation of a class in your specialty - linked below
- A verbal knowledge component (questions asked and discussed) by the Assistant Trainer or Trainer
