Description
The successful candidate will be responsible to instruct specialized aquatic
fitness programs such as aquafit, aquazumba, aqua therapy, and more. This position is
responsible for enforcing pool rules and Alberta Health Regulations with patrons using the pool
and administering first aid treatment and emergency response procedures as required.
To be successful, you possess excellent oral and written communication skills, along with
organizational skills. You can work as a member of a team, and you possess strong leadership
qualities. You maintain current certifications; at a minimum this includes A.F.L.C.A, or other personal trainer/fitness professional licensing with
documented specialization in water exercise and Standard First Aid, CPR Level C/AED or
Lifesaving Society Aquatic Emergency Care.
The ideal candidate will be available Monday to Friday mornings, and Thursday evening.
Specific Duties
Performs duties of an instructor in a professional manner
Understands and applies facility and emergency policies and procedures
Enforces pool rules and Alberta Health Regulations with patrons using the pool
Administers first aid treatment and emergency response procedures as required
Other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Supervisor, Coordinators, Senior Lifeguard or
designate
Assists with public education, outreach strategies and promotion of aquatic programs
and services as required
Performs customer service duties including admission sales and program registrations
as required
Requirements and qualifications
A.F.L.C.A certification or other personal
trainer/fitness professional licensing with documented specialization in water exercise
Standard First Aid, CPR Level C/AED or Lifesaving Society Aquatic Emergency Care
Basic working proficiency MS Office suite of programs, use of software for staff
scheduling, registration, membership management
Ability to complete various mandatory training including: Health & Safety, WHMIS,
Respectful Workplace
Mandatory attendance at in-service training (held approximately monthly)
Ability to work well in a team environment
Ability to make sound decisions using good judgment
Ability to deal with the public in a positive, courteous manner
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including an orientation toward positive
customer service
Personal organizational skills
Working Conditions
Ability to work extremely flexible hours (evenings, weekends, and holidays), shift work
and split shifts as business requires
Ability to spend significant amounts of time standing and/or in the water
Comfortable working at all times in a warm, humid and loud environment
Exposure to a diverse group of patrons
Exposure to physical injury working in close proximity to children and patrons in the
water
Frequent exposure to gases, pool chemicals, cleaning solvents, and other controlled
substances
Ability to lift 50lbs comfortably and safely
Physically fit enough to perform a variety of physical duties, including instructing,
rescues, lifting children and moving equipment
