Description
Our older adult and seniors recreation centre is seeking an experienced and qualified
group fitness instructor who would be available to provide our active members with safe, effective, and fun
exercise classes. We are seeking an enthusiastic, outgoing, and friendly instructor, who can provide an
array of different exercise classes for our membership with varying levels of fitness experience. Some
classes may be focused on chair-based fitness whereas others are of greater intensity and can include but
are not limited to aerobic and/or resistance training focused, circuit and interval training, suspension
training, step, and activities involving mat-work.
This is a contracted position, where schedules will be determined for three months at a time - exact
weekdays and timeframes to be discussed during interview. Hours of instruction per week will range
between two to eight, with the opportunity for additional hours to be available via subbing for other fitness
instructors.
Teaching opportunities will vary based on the weekday and all classes will be between the hours of 8:30am and 4:00pm. Class durations will range between 45 to 60 minutes and in most instances, your schedule will consist of at least two classes back to back. No evenings or weekends are required at this time.
Winter 2025 is the season in which we would like to acquire another group exercise instructor (The Winter
2025 season would commence mid to late January through to the end of March) however there may be
some teaching opportunities during this current season - to be discussed with candidates during interview.
Note: If candidate has certifications and experience in personal fitness training, there may be opportunities
to join the current fitness training team where you will be able to contract out your fitness services for our
facility members out of our independent fitness centre.
Requirements and qualifications
AFLCA Older Adult, AFLCA Group Exercise, AFLCA CPFT, and/or any relevant AFLCA exercise certifications would be preferred. Other certifications would be an asset.
Proof of liability insurance and current certifications along with proof of completion of Standard First Aid,
CPR-Level C, and AED Training is required.
Experience working within a group exercise environment is an asset. This candidate should possess great
customer service and problem-solving skills as working with dynamic groups can often present challenges
that an instructor may need to address and manage. Demonstrating an ability to adapt programs to meet the
needs of members with varying levels of fitness experience is essential as is ensuring safe and regular
progression is built into all programming.
